Wrestle Ropes Ready for the Weekend: October 2016 Week Three - TW, OTT & PROGRESS

Another busy week of British and Irish wrestling is ahead of us, this week we take a look at Target Wrestling in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway on Friday, before jumping over to Wexford, Ireland as Over The Top Wrestling take over Spiegeltent Festival on Saturday and rounding off in Manchester as PROGRESS Wrestling present Chapter 37: A Sudden Sense of Liberty. So without further ado it's time to get Ready For The Weekend!

If none of those are near you or you're just looking for more, we've got alternative shows in highlighted also. Including shows in Armadale, Aylesbury, Aberdeen, Bury, Glasgow and Newport!

Friday kicks things off with Target Wrestling heading back to Annan and The Corner House Hotel. This show marks the first of two events over the weekend for Target Wrestling with them heading to Carlisle the following night.

In Carlisle, Shady Nattrass is scheduled to defend the Target Wrestling High Octane Division Championship against DCT. However, Natrass might not even make it to Carlisle as champion as he'll be facing Martin Kirby this Friday. Kirby has been close to championship gold in TW as well as being a multi-time champion all over the UK. Could Kirby finally win TW gold or will Nattrass be successful in his first championship defense of the weekend?

This Friday will see Annan's own Ivy Mist back in action in TW where she will be teaming up with former TW Champion; Medallion to face former TW Tag Team Champions; Havok & Karnage. Mist and Medallion have teamed before and had success doing so, but this will be their toughest challenge against former champions. Mist will have the backing of the crowd this Friday, however if the pressure of being in front of home town fans takes over, it may not be the homecoming she so desires.

In the past, Alexander Henry, Spyda, Benny Munroe and Luke Rose have all crossed paths with each other. This Friday they'll all be meeting in the ring in a fatal four-way match. Some have wins over others, some don't like each other. Regardless of who likes who and who doesn't, only one person is walking of of this match as the winner. We might see alliances form but no alliance can win this match. It can only be one man. The one who fights the hardest for it.

Other matches on the show shall see “The Primate” Jason Prime taking on The Coyote Kid for the first time while Ryan Hunter and Ben Vicious shall be competing against each other in singles action.

Friday Alternative

Premier British Wrestling Live in Armadale
Armadale, West Lothian
Tickets Available - From £8 per person

On Saturday, Over The Top Wrestling make their debut in Wexford for a show at Spiegeltent Festival.

Kimber Lee makes her first appearance for OTT, as she takes on Martina. Lee has proven to be one of the toughest competitors in Independent wrestling, female or otherwise, even reigning as CHIKARA's Grand Champion earlier this year, even succesfully defending the title against Nixon Newell in Wales. Yet on Saturday she may very well be at a disadvantage, not only because of the unfamiliar surroundings in her first match in Ireland, but also due to Martina being a little bit unpredictable. Even though she reigned a top of CHIKARA's gang of ragamuffins and oddballs for almost six months, Lee may never come into contact with a wrestler like Martina and that might just give the upcomer the edge over the much more experienced Lee. Whatever the outcome, expect plenty of shenanigans and some great action.

Hubba Bubba Lucha explodes? Quite possibly as Bubblegum debuts in OTT to take on a man he's very familiar with, El Ligero. This pair have battle each other, teamed with each other and just about everything in between all over the UK and into Europe for over ten years and on Saturday that level of experience and familiarity comes to Spiegeltent Festival. Both are known to favour a high-flying and pacy style, so this one could very well be fought and won above the ring. Ligero struggled during his previous trip to OTT, so he'll be looking to put the demons of dual loses to Pete Dunne to bed, whilst Bubblegum will be looking to make a big impact on the company in Wexford. Either way, this match may steal the show!

At the other end of the scale, Dave Mastiff is returning to OTT for the first time in over a year to take on a performer who will be looking to put himself in the conversion over Pete Dunne's No Limits Championship. Garrett has had a number of successes since debuting at the start of 2016, thanks to his sheer power and impressive speed for a 225 lb man, but in Mastiff he may have some who can match him for power and will work hard to keep Garrett from being able to break into a high gear and use his pace. The Bastard will be looking to show OTT what they've been missing out on over the last year and defeating one of the companies top contenders would definitely send out the right message. Mastiff and Garrett will give their all to get one over the other and you'll have to be in Wexford on Saturday night to find out who comes out victorious.

Also on the card for Saturday are appearances from Love Island star, Adam Maxted and security guard turned actor turned wrestler, Tiny Iron.

After holding their biggest show to date in September, but not one to sit on their laurels, PROGRESS Wrestling holds their final Manchester event in 2016, with Chapter 37: A Sudden Sense of Liberty.

After British Strong Style (Pete Dunne & Trent Seven) won the Tag Team Championship in September, three teams will be looking to get their head above the water and begin to stake a claim for a shot at the new men at the top of the division. FSU (Eddie Dennis & Mark Andrews) are perhaps the most popular tag team in the company, getting insane reactions whenever Andrew WK's Party Hard hits. However, their 2016 hasn't been a vintage year, at least in terms of victories, as they unsuccessfully challenged for the Tag Team titles on two occasions. The team that was champions at that time, The Origin, will be represented by El Ligero and Dave Mastiff. Perhaps surprisingly this is the first time they will be teaming as a pair, but with plenty of big match experience they'll be difficult to beat, even without Zack Gibson and Nathan Cruz at ringside. The wild card in this match has to be The South Pacific Power Trip (TK Cooper & Travis Banks) as whilst they're still a relatively knew team in PROGRESS, they've impressed in their first few matches and remain undefeated. If Dahlia Black is at ringside they may well cause an upset. Three teams and six competitors will make for pacy scramble of a match, but who walks out with the win is anyone's guess!

In another bout involving a lot of variables, Pete Dunne, Joe Coffey, Shane Strickland and Marty Scurll will go to battle for a shot at the World Championship, currently held by Mark Haskins. Just take a look at that line up, it's perhaps the most diverse four way ever. Dunne won the Tag Team Championship and has impressed enough since creating British Strong Style with Trent Seven to get a place in this four way. With Seven by his side, Dunne will do anything he can to earn a title shot and the chance to be a joint champion. Joe Coffey was unsuccessful in his quest to become the first ever Atlas Champion, but had previously blazed his way to the final with victories over the likes of Dave Mastiff, Michael Dante and Mikey Whiplash. Coffey is easily the most powerful man in the contest and will be looking to use that power to turn the negative of losing the Atlas tournament into a positive. 2 time CZW Wired Champion is still a newcomer to PROGRESS, but after defeating former World Champion Will Ospreay in August, he find himself with this big chance. Strickland is the quickest of the competitor, so will be hoping to win this one in the sky. The final participant, Scurll lost the World title in Brixton, but with PROGRESS offering no automatic rematches, he'll have to earn himself a chance here. The Villain has shown that he's obsessed with the title in the past, so who knows what he'll do in order to get the belt back in his possession. Dunne, Strickland, Coffey and Scurll all have what it takes and all four have incredibly different styles, this should lead to absolute classic in Manchester.

After defeating Marty Scurll and Tommy End just three weeks ago, Mark Haskins will have his work cut out for him when he puts the belt on the line for the first time against The Origin's Zack Gibson. Gibson hasn't been in the best of form since reaching the Semi-Finals of Super Strong Style 16 in May, but managing to pin Jack Gallagher in his final match before leaving for WWE, as well as keeping The Origin from disbanding, has seen him catapulted into a title match. This could be a master class in submission wrestling as both are known to favour specific arm-based holds, but their similarities end there as Haskins is adored by the audience, whilst only Donald Trump seems capable of getting more heat than Gibson at this point in time.  The Star Attraction won their first encounter in January, so will be hoping for a repeat, but there's more than a possibility that Gibson could play spoiler and make sure that Haskins title reign is over before it begins.

Rounding out the show, Rampage Brown faces the unknown as he puts his Atlas Championship on the line in an Open Challenge, Kimber Lee faces Kay Lee Ray, James Drake takes on Fabian Aichner and Bubblegum returns to PROGRESS for a match with Chuck Mambo.

Wrestle Ropes Ready for the Weekend: July 2016 Week 5 - Good Wrestling, TW, PROGRESS & ICW

We didn't have an article last week because real life got in the way and gave us no time for anything, including eating and possibly breathing on a few occasions so our apologises to you the reader and to Across The Pond Wrestling. But no more as we're back this week and what a weekend we have coming up in British Wrestling. We're firstly heading to Milton Keynes for Friday before travelling north to Annan on Saturday, a hop across the border to Glasgow on Sunday then back to London the same night ass we're always time-travellers. Enough of this verbal ping-pong! Let's get Ready For The Weekend!!

First up this weekend on Friday night is GOOD Wrestling who are holding their third event, The Power Of 3 at The Craufurd Arms in Milton Keynes. For it only being their third show, GOOD Wrestling have been delivering quality matches from the start and this show looks to follow the trend.

One match that is sure to be hard hitting affair will be between Mike Bird and Wild Boar. These two men were originally supposed to be partners at GOOD Wrestling's last event. However fate decided that Boar would not be able to make the show. Bird took exception to this and now he wants retribution against his fellow Welshman and he'll hope to get it this Friday.

Damian Dunne shall be making his GOOD Wrestling debut this Friday. Dunne is a very serious man. He's not a man who finds enjoyment in much except dealing out pain to his opponents so he is unlikely to be happy about his opponent, Jack Sexsmith. A Sexsmith by name, also by nature, Jack will no doubt really annoy Dunne this Friday night in Milton Keynes. Unless he keeps one eye on Dunne, Sexsmith could well find himself no longer having fun again.

The self-proclaimed "Number One" will not be the only member of the Dunne family in action at 'The Power Of 3' as Pete Dunne shall also be present. “The Bruiserweight” is well known with his smash-mouth style and impressive technique making him a formidable athlete. His opponent, Pastor William Eaver is used to formidable though as he has achieved success of equal measure to Dunne in recent times. Eaver already holds a major British Wrestling championship while Pete shall be making his Pro Wrestling Guerilla debut in the near future. This is a match that not only showcase the young talent on these shores but give us a glimpse of what is to come in the future of British Wrestling.

Match Card

This Ain’t No Picnic (Big Grizzly & Panda Cub) vs The Dazzler Team (Darrell Allen & Earl Black Jr)

Jack Sexsmith vs ‘Number One’ Damian Dunne

Wild Boar vs Mike Bird

Gene Munny vs Chris Brookes

Pastor William Eaver vs ‘The Bruiserweight’ Pete Dunne

‘All Day Star’ Ryan Smile vs ‘The Superstar’ Ashley Dunn

Moving on to Saturday and Target Wrestling make their return to Annan at The Carnegie Theatre. While only three matches have been announced at present, TW put on good quality events every time the roll into a town.

Shady Nattrass will be in action this Saturday when he defends the High Octane Division Championship against man who beat him only a month ago, Khifie West. West's victory over the champion came during the finals and is undoubtedly his biggest win to date. The question is, can West make history repeat itself and take the High Octane Division Championship in the process.

Speaking of High Octane Division champions, James Scott shall be competing against The Coyote Kid at The Carnegie Theatre. Scott a former champion, will be sure to use his extensive skills and experience against the big fan-favourite, Kid. A win for Kid over such an experienced opponent could do a lot for his young career. A loss could be a lesson he may not soon forgot or wish to repeat.

The third match confirmed so far will see Spyda be in a Target Wrestling ring as he faces one of the finest young wrestlers today, a man who calls himself “The Best Young Wrestler In The World”, Lewis Girvan. Now while you could assume that title is egotistical, Girvan is a man who backs up what he says in the ring. Spyda is indeed a fine high-flyer and has a lot of talent. He'll need every bit of it against  Girvan. One mistake may be all that Girvan needs to showcase why it's not bragging when you back it up.

Match Card

High Octane Division Championship
Shady Nattrass (c) vs Khifie West

James Scott vs The Coyote Kid

“The Best Young Wrestler In The World” Lewis Girvan vs Spyda

Heading on to Sunday and the first show we are going look to focus on is PROGRESS Wrestling Chapter 33: Malice In Wonderland at The Electric Ballroom in Camden, London. Now this show is already sold out so you may think why bother writing about it. Well simply, it's PROGRESS and it should be talked about whenever the opportunity presents itself.

The main event of this event will see Marty Scurll get a chance to reclaim the PROGRESS Championship when he faces Pastor William Eaver. Eaver won the championship at Chapter 32 back in June and since then Scurll has been irate to the point that he attacked one of PROGRESS's co-owners so badly to get his rematch that the owner has since left the company. Eaver used his Natural Progression Series championship cash-in to win the championship and he quite rightly had the perfect opportunity to do so. However, Scurll showed how ruthless he can be to get something he wants that we now have no idea how far he shall go to get what he believes was stolen from him. Eaver now has a demon hunting him that he must exorcise at Chapter 33 but Scurll's anger may be so great that not even God himself can stop him this Sunday.

Whoever walks away the champion this Sunday will know what awaits them next as Mark Haskins shall face Will Ospreay to determine the number one contender to the PROGRESS Championship. These men are world-class in anyone's eyes and would both be worthy challengers to any championship including the PROGRESS Championship. Haskins the SMASH Champion and Ospreay the NJPW BOSJ 2016 winner are credits enough for an opportunity. We could see another world-class match this Sunday when these two men meet in the squared circle. PROGRESS have always been a promotion that showcases the best of British and any stars from outside the UK are there for a reason and not just a name. This Sunday will be no different.

The London Riots stated that they would defend the PROGRESS Tag Team Championship against anyone, anywhere. PROGRESS Wrestling are holding them to that when the team of Hanson and Ray Rowe of War Machine step up to the challenge. London Riots are known for their powerful offence. War Machine are probably one of the few teams who can equal that power. London Riots have some the whole UK why they have the reputation they do. War Machine are world-travelled and will be looking to show the UK again why they have the the same reputation.

Match Card

PROGRESS Championship
“The Villain” Marty Scurll vs Pastor William Eaver (c)

PROGRESS Tag Team Championship
The London Riots (Rob Lynch & James Davis) (c) vs War Machine (Hanson & Ray Rowe)

PROGRESS Championship Number One Contender
“The Star Attraction” Mark Haskins vs “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay

“The Mexican Sensation” El Ligero vs “White Lightning” Mark Andrews

The Dunne Brothers (“The Bruiserweight” Pete Dunne & “Number One” Damian Dunne) vs Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate & Trent Seven)

“Liverpool’s No.1” Zack Gibson vs “The Extraordinary Gentleman” Jack Gallagher

Wasteman Challenge
“Bodyguy” Roy Johnson vs ???

Finally the weekend rounds off with Insane Championship Wrestling at the O2 ABC in Glasgow with Shug's Hoose Party III

This show will result in a major change for ICW with control of the promotion on the line in a six-man tag team match. Red Lightning currently owns 51% of ICW's shares, where as ICW creator; Mark Dallas owns 49% therefore making him minority shareholder. However if Dallas' team of Noam Dar, Grado and a third competitor win, Lightning will be forced to sign over 1% of the company to Dallas, making him an equal shareholder. But if Drew Galloway, Jack Jester and Wolfgang win for Lightning, Dallas shall sign over his 49%, removing him entirely from ICW. Dallas wants a say in the promotion he created and has had to resort to this match for a chance to do so. A win will mean that Lightning can't do as he pleases in ICW anymore without Dallas' approval. A loss for ICW's creator may not only destroy ICW but Dallas himself.

This Sunday will see DCT finally get his hands on Bram in a match that he has wanted for a year. Back at 'Shug's Hoose Party II', Bram attacked DCT and his new wife, Viper during their wedding leaving Viper being unconscious. Since then, DCT hasn't been the same. Every time that Bram was in ICW, DCT was waiting. Bram may have stopped or escaped DCT but this Sunday there will be no escape. This match will be inside a steel cage and nothing is going to stop DCT from unleashing the anger which has boiled inside him for the last 12 months. DCT is known as The Lone Strike, this Sunday he'll look to be the lone man walking out of the steel cage.

The main event this Sunday will see the ICW World Heavyweight Championship on the line when champion, “The Beast Of Belfast” Big Damo defends against “Iron Man” Joe Coffey. The Black Label have tried in vain to take the ICW World Heavyweight Championship from Damo since he won it. On the other hand, Coffey has had to deal with Black Label interfering in his business for just as long. While Damo has overcome everything Black Label has thrown at him, Coffey has also done the same to get his opportunity. The fans have wanted this match for a long time and finally it's going to happen. Whether Black Label will get involved is still be seen but regardless we are going to see two true heavyweights of professional wrestling collide for one of the most prized championship in wrestling today.

A worldwide audience will see on iPPV what happens when two powerhouses of British Wrestling collide in one of the biggest shows in ICW's history where more history could be made.

Match Card

Wrestle Ropes' Ready for the Weekend: February 2016 Week 3 - TW, SWE & NGW

Well this week we have a weekend-bursting bumper bonanza of shows coming up! We have shows from the very top of Scotland to the South of England with a lot in between. We shall be starting off our weekend journey in Dumfries on Friday. Then we are off to St Neots on the Saturday before ending our weekend in Liverpool. Let's get Ready For The Weekend!

On Friday night, Target Wrestling make their return to Dumfries at the Assembly Rooms. Each Target Wrestling show seems to get that little bit bigger and this is no different. The event shall see Medallion once again defending the Target Wrestling Heavyweight Championship (a new version of which shall be unveiled on the night) in his favourite match, a Medallion's Rules match. However, his opponent will be possibly his least favourite as Michael Dante shall be the challenger. While many will know Dante for being a part of the Sumerian Death Squad, he is. One of the best heavyweight wrestlers in Europe with a hard hitting, fast paced style that very few men of his size can replicate. This may be a case of Medallion's own match working against him with his championship reign under real threat. Where one member of the Sumerian Death Squad goes, another is bound to follow as Tommy End will also be in action on Friday night. His opponent will be Shady Nattrass. A man who has made a name for himself in Target Wrestling with victories over a number of international stars. End will no doubt be his toughest opponent yet though. A man who is sought by the likes of PWG is no easy thing to combat and End's plethora of kicks and strikes may give Shady Nattrass a beating the likes of which he has never experienced. The Target Wrestling Tag Team Championship will also be on the line at the Assembly Rooms as Havok and Karnage will defend against Martin Kirby and a mystery opponent. While the name of Kirby's partner may be a mystery, his accolades as a tag team wrestler are well known. A multi-time, multi-promotion tag team champion who has defeated some of the best tag teams in the world. Havok & Karnage may have been at the top of the tag team division for a number of months but the experience of Martin Kirby and the unknown element of his partner may be the catalyst to end the reign of Havok & Karnage.

*Target Wrestling Tag Team Championship*

‘Anti-Hero’ Tommy End vs Shady Nattrass

The Coyote Kid vs Alexander Henry

Moving on to Saturday and Southside Wrestling host 'Battle Of The Egos 6' at The Priory Centre in St Neots. As always from Southside Wrestling, it is a star studded affair with a wealth of British stars alongside international names. One match which showcase this is Will Ospreay vs Andrew Everett. Both of these men are gaining more worldwide recognition as time goes on and it seems only right that they should meet in competition. Regardless of who wins, we are guaranteed a high-flying, non-stop show this Saturday. Another match with international flavour is the contest between BT Gunn and the current EVOLVE Champion, Timothy Thatcher. Gunn is quite simply one of the best wrestlers in Europe without question. His opponent is known as being one of the best wrestlers in the world with a championship to prove it. Gunn may have only had limited success in Southside so far but a big win could be just around the corner. If indeed that win would be over Thatcher then Gunn would have a legitimate claim to a championship match in Southside Wrestling. The main event for this Saturday will see 'The Righteous' Joseph Conners defend the Southside Heavyweight Championship against former champion, 'The Heavyweight House Of Pain' Stixx. Conners has been a dominant champion thanks in part to his aggression and also to The Righteous Army. Stixx was also known for having a impressive championship reign the last time he held the title. Stixx already holds a win over Conners in a tag team match. Now they will meet one on one except this time the match will be a Last Man Standing contest. Whoever leaves Southside Wrestling as champion will only do it by outlasting the other man.

Finally ending the weekend on Sunday (as is tradition with a week) and New Generation Wrestling host 'Destiny 2016' at the Liverpool Olympia. The event will be headlined by the annual 20-man over the top rope rumble match which is particularly star-studded this year with the likes of Mark Haskins, El Ligero and Doug Williams all confirmed entrants. The winner will be leaving with a guaranteed match for the NGW Undisputed Championship. Speaking of the NGW Undisputed Championship, the current champion, 'The Showstealer' Nathan Cruz will join forces with his long-time adversary, Zack Gibson to take on The Control's Rampage Brown & Mark Haskins. While Cruz & Gibson may not like each other, they like The Control even less. The Control have attempted to exploit the bad feeling between Gibson & Cruz which at times has seemed to work. Can the champion and a potential challenger find the common ground long enough to deal a blow to The Control? We'll find out Sunday. As we previously mentioned, El Ligero and Doug Williams shall be in the Destiny Rumble but they will also be in singles action against each other. Ligero has achieved a huge amount in NGW as well as the UK as a whole. Williams on the other hand is simply a legend of British Wrestling with the accomplishments to prove it. This match will be a great encounter of two of the best in the UK.

Wrestle Ropes' Ready for the Weekend: September 2014 Week 2

Firstly we must apologise to Across The Pond Wrestling and readers of these articles for the lateness of this week's edition. Solely due to real life getting in the way. However, let's move on to wrestling life and get Ready For The Weekend!

Kicking off the weekend on Friday night, Target Wrestling are back at The Venue in Carlisle, Cumbria. The event will feature international star, 'The Hurricane' Shane Helms teaming with, the always impressive, Mark Coffey to face the duo of T-Bone & Bubblegum. Helms has won numerous championships during his career and Mark Coffey in a bona-fide world class athlete in his own right, whilst their opponents are no strangers to each other and have been partners on numerous occasions. This should be a great action filled match for all to see. The Target Wrestling Heavyweight Championship is also on the line on September 11th when Joe Coffey defends against a surprise opponent. Originally scheduled to face Kris Travis who unfortunately had to withdraw due to a stomach injury, Coffey now faces the unknown but the 'Iron Man' has never been scared of a fight and shall welcome the challenge. For months, Alexander Henry has caused chaos in Target Wrestling with his cohorts. Now aligned with Jason Prime and Rampage Brown, they are set to face a group who live to cause chaos, The New Age Kliq's Stevie Xavier, BT Gunn & Wolfgang. These groups have a real dislike for each other and Carlisle may not be able to withstand the inevitable war that is coming this Friday.

Moving on to Saturday and Tidal Championship Wrestling host their final event at The Dolphin Centre in Darlington, County Durham, Last Dance. One match of interest at the event is Martin Kirby vs. HT Drake. Now Kirby is considered one of the best wrestlers in the UK and rightfully so, HT Drake on the other hand is a great up and coming talent from the North East of England. This will be great test for the young HT Drake against such an experienced opponent. At Spring Storm Dan James and Dan Evans were tag team partners. Move on a few months and these two are now no longer partners or even friends. They have their differences and the only way to resolve them is to fight it out on September 12th. In the main event, Liam Lazarus puts the TCW Championship on the line against the first ever champion, 'The Mexican Sensation' El Ligero. These men have faced each other in TCW twice before with both holding a victory over the other. Now it's time for the rubber match with the gold up for grabs.

On Sunday, PROGRESS Wrestling are back with another edition of their ENDVR franchise which is now holding it's 12th show, at the Garage in Islington, London. A place in the Natural Progression Series will be up for grabs when the very unique Jack Sexsmith faces Australia's Josh Shooter. Shooter is a world-travelled athlete and Sexsmith has become a a real fan favourite in the ENDVR ranks. This is a big test for Sexsmith but one he'll want to overcome to gain entry to the Electric Ballroom in the near future. At PTNTL:2, Jinny demanded that she be given a tougher challenge in her next match. PROGRESS being a company that listens went and found Jinny a bigger challenge in the shape of Toni Storm. Jinny and Storm have crossed paths before when Jinny interfered in a match between Toni and Elizabeth, Jinny's PA. Now the woman the fans have christened the "Primark Princess" gets the chance to face a tougher challenge and Toni Storm gets a chance to gain some revenge. In possibly the strangest combination of characters in wrestling, Pastor William Eaver & Chuck Mambo are back in tag team action against one of the most decorated tag teams in British Wrestling today, The London Riots. Sweet Jesus have scored some big wins during their tag team career. The London Riots would be a huge team to defeat but it won't come easy.

That wraps up this week's preview of the weekend's wrestling schedule. Of course, there are many more events taking place over the three days.
