Wrestle Ropes' Ready for the Weekend: April 2016 Week 3 - FCP, Pride & RevPro

We're back and once again it's time for everybody to come aboard the.... weekly article? Yeah, so we're no experts at talking. What we are pretty good at though is telling you just a tiny selection of the great events coming up this weekend in British Wrestling. Let's get Ready For The Weekend!

friday
fcp planet terror vol. 2
wolverhampton, west midlands, england

Friday night kicks off another wrestling weekend when Fight Club: PRO are back at their usual haunt in Wolverhampton of The Planet Nightclub. The night sees Vol 2 of Planet Terror take place but it could be virtual bliss for us wrestling fans. Back at 'Rise Against' Pete Dunne was originally scheduled to face Clint Margera in a Death match. However, Dunne said that he would never compete in such a match and Rickey Shane Page took his place. Well this Friday marks Margera's birthday and FCP management have let Margera choose any match he wants as way of a gift. So Dunne will be in this match. He will be facing Margera. And it shall be an unsanctioned Death match! Clint Margera might not only be ripping open gifts, he could be ripping open Pete Dunne. For months, The Hunter Brothers have been at odds with The Facesmashers. Last month, Wild Boar & Dan Moloney said they wouldn't face Hunter Brothers again until they proved themselves. Well FCP think Hunter Brothers have proven their worth so these two teams are going to meet once again in an attempt to settle their differences. Whether we'll see the end to this war or not, we're seeing another battle in Wolverhampton this Friday. The main event on April 15th shall see MK McKinnan defending the FCP Championship for the first time this year. His opponent shall be having their first challenge for a championship in FCP, Nixon Newell. McKinnan has stated that he believes Newell has no place in the ring with him. Newell has proven without doubt that she is equal to any man or woman to grace FCP. If McKinnan thinks that Newell is no real threat to his championship reign then simply he won't walk out of The Planet Nightclub as champion.

Moving on to Saturday and Pride Wrestling are hosting their first event of 2016 at their home of the Bridgeton Community Centre in Glasgow. The night sees championships defended and new threats emerge. Chris Renfrew and DCT have been battling over the N7 Championship since last year with Renfrew going to any length to remain champion. However, DCT's resilience has lead to Renfrew showing him a degree of respect. DCT's quest and hunger for the N7 Championship is still as strong as it ever was. He will not stop until he becomes champion. Each time he has come closer than the last. Could this be his time to topple Renfrew and become champion or will he come up short once again to the antics of the champion? Massimo Italiano is back in action at Pride after an impressive debut at their last event. This time round he's going one on one with possibly the most popular man in Pride, Bobby Roberts. Italino is a big hitter and he'll need to hit hard to get Roberts off his feet and down for the three-count. The crowd will almost certainly be behind 'Big Beefy' as he welcomes back the big Italian. When Pride finishes we shall know who has a guaranteed championship match as the 24/7 Challenge returns this Saturday. The past two challenges have been won by men who have both went on to become Pride Heavyweight Champion thanks in part to the any championship, anywhere clause. This 24/7 Challenge sees one of those men, 'The Lowland Superstar' Glen Dunbar once again compete for the contract. His long-time tag team partner, Alex Cavanagh and Christopher Saynt have also been announced for the match. The unknown in this match will come from the two unannounced entrants. Everyone in Pride Wrestling will want to be a part of this match as previous winners have shown it's potential to be a rocket to championship gold. The eventual winner will just have to overcome four other competitors to get that chance.

sunday
revpro sittingbourne spectacular 2016
sittingbourne, kent, england

Rounding off the wrestling weekend and Revolution Pro Wrestling are at the UK Paper Leisure Club in Sittingbourne with their 'Sittingbourne Spectacular 2016' event. RevPro are well-known for the international match-ups and this event is no different with international stars in every match that has been announced. That is not be a slight at RevPro as they have scheduled some mouthwatering match up with the best of British stars. Pete Dunne only debuted in RevPro a few months ago during the Undisputed British Cruiserweight Championship tournament. He went on to win that tournament and has been having stellar matches since. This Sunday looks to be no different as he faces one of the best cruiserweights in the world in the shape of Matt Sydal. Sydal has had a number of memorable matches in the past few years. This match could well be added to that list when he faces Dunne. When RevPro announced the first match for this event we knew the calibre we were getting. King Ricochet returns to RevPro to face 'The Aerial Assassin' Will Ospreay. Both of these men have appeared in the US, both are members of the New Japan Pro Wrestling roster. This is a match of world-class, epic proportions. Make no mistake this match will show why both of these men are the most in demand stars in the world right now. The main event will see championship gold defended as Zack Sabre Jr defends the Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship against Michael Elgin. ZSJ won the championship from now WWE star, AJ Styles back in January. Not only did ZSJ win but he made Styles tap out to do it. Styles on that night declared the new champion to be one of the best in the world. A sentiment echoed by many others. He'll have to be indeed one of the best this Sunday as the challenger, Elgin, is a powerhouse of professional wrestling. Elgin has appeared in RevPro before and he impressed in a big way. Since then he has grown in talent and power. ZSJ is a technical wizard whose kicks are as hard as his holds are to escape from. He'll need those talents to counter the power and strength that Elgin will bring to the table on April 18th.

The Merch Table with Craig Hermit #2 - WWE NXT, PROGRESS, Noam Dar, Joe Hendry & Christopher Saynt

This week with the festive period upon us, I've decided to look at individual wrestlers and promotions merchandise...you know, T-shirts, Hoodies and much much more.

So let's start with a wrestler who's merchandise is almost as famous as he is, that man is Noam Dar.

Noamdar.bigcartel.com is the site where you will find multiple variety of fantastic T-shirts available in Unisex sizes from S to 3XL priced from £15 and above. A superb Black or White Tee (pictured) featuring YOU ONLY LIVE FOREVER print in either white or gold on black or blue on white is available.

Now available is the Super Comfy 300GSM Cotton/Polyester Hoodie with two front pockets, contrast white Zip & featuring Gold sheen DAR Logo on front chest and back waist "LIVE FOREVER" logo. This is available in Unisex sizes S - 2XL priced at just £30.

Another star whose merchandise has caught my eye is 'Local Hero' Joe Hendry, another man who has joined bigcartel, and you will find a range of Hoodies, T-shirts, bags and more on Joehendry.bigcartel.com

My choice is the new Zip Hoodie "For only the most dedicated Local Hero fans, the zipper hoodie comes complete with small logo on the front and a giant one on the back, so there is no doubt who you've chosen to support. Join the hen-party today and invest in this iconic piece of wrestling apparel" available in sizes M to XL priced at £30, also his 'Local Hero' T-shirt is available as well from sizes S- 2XL priced at £15.

And you may gave noticed the name Big Cartel appearing several times, well who are they?

"For nearly a decade, creative people from around the world have used Big Cartel’s simple tools and resources to build a unique online store, manage and sell their work, delight their fans and customers, and run their business their own way"

Continuing the Scottish contingent featured so far, I direct our attention to Christopher Saynt whose new line of T-shirts available in sizes from S-XL priced at £15 and badges are £1.50 as well. And you can contact him via his twitter page @chriSaynt

Targeting Wrestling Promotions, we look at a promotion's merchandise that has continuously sold their wrestling events in record time, that is Progress.

Chapter 24 "Hit the North" DVD.

"Our Manchester début was just a little bit special… and you can now PRE ORDER the limited edition 2-disc DVD. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WILL NOT BE SHIPPED UNTIL JANUARY. Order before the end of December 16th to get a £1 discount (usual price £14)."

RESTOCKED Ramones Progress T-shirt.

"We had our Ultras vote on their favourite t-shirts from past PROGRESS designs and we have decided to reprint the two most popular.  As we pride ourselves on being Punk Rock Pro Wrestling, our version of the classic Ramones logo initially sold out a long time ago.  It’s now time to bring it back, so make sure that you get one for yourself before they’re gone permanently again!"

Available in Unisex sizes S - 3XL also in Lady Fit T-Shirt Sizing S-2XL priced at £17.

And as WWE NXT has arrived, I thought just in case you missed what you wanted from the merchandise stand, here's a selection of things that caught my eye as well at http://euroshop.wwe.com/

William Regal "Made in England" Authentic T-shirt available in sizes S - 5XL as well as the Finn Bálor "Bálor Club" Unisex Lightweight Full-Zip Hoodie Sweatshirt, "Our Unisex zip hooded sweatshirt is made with soft, lightweight fleece and a slim fit. Features jersey lined hood, heavy gauge  drawcord with metal eyelets, #5 metal kissing zipper and 1x1 ribbing at cuffs and waistband", available in sizes XL- 2XL priced at £44.

And finally Daniel Bryan "Yes!: My Improbable Journey to the Main Event of Wrestlemania Book"

"One of WWE's most unlikely champions of all time and also one of its most popular, Bryan has proved to the world and to all of WWE that looks can be deceiving. Just ask anyyone who's ever underestimated him . . . right before he went out and whipped the WWE universe into a frenzy.

This is Bryan's behind-the-scenes story told for the first time ever by the "YES!" Man himself---from his beginnings as a child wanting to wrestle to his ten years circling the globe on the independent circuit and his remarkable climb to the upper ranks of WWE."

So, that's the Table for another time...

Wrestle Ropes Ready for the Weekend: November 2015 Week 3

As we still recover from the biggest show in British Wrestling history, the wrestling machine just keeps on rolling with another packed weekend coming up. Let's get Ready For The Weekend!

On Friday night, Discovery Wrestling are back in action in Edinburgh, this time at the Thomas Morton Hall. One match set to take place will see probably the most well-known man in British Wrestling today, Grado in action. Grado has had an issue with 'Global Hero' Joe Hendry ever since he cost Grado a match against Lou King Sharp. Now Grado gets his chance at retribution against Joe Hendry hopefully without any interference from Lou King Sharp. New faces are appearing in Discover Wrestling all the time and this Saturday shall be no different as 'White Lightning' Mark Andrews makes his debut. However, Andrews will not have an easy introduction to Discovery Wrestling as he faces 'Iron Man' Joe Coffey. Mark Andrews is a phenomenal athlete and will no doubt put on a show this Friday but his opponent, Joe Coffey is undefeated in Discovery Wrestling. An undefeated streak is an accomplishment in itself but Joe Coffey has defeated a plethora of international talent in Discovery Wrestling. Andrews face a great challenge but a win would be an amazing start to his Discovery Wrestling career. The main event this Friday shall see Rampage Brown and Damian O'Connor meet one last time. Both men hold a victory over the other in Discovery Wrestling. Neither man will back down from the other so they will now face each other until one of them cannot stand. The winner of this war will literally be the Last Man Standing.

Grado vs Joe Hendry

Bete Noire & Nikki Storm vs The Bae Club (Debbie Sharpe & Sammii Jayne)

*Four-Way Elimination*

The Christopher Saynt Celebration

Moving on to Saturday and Pride Wrestling host their final show of 2015 at the Bridgeton Community Centre in Glasgow. There has been a long running feud between Christopher Saynt and the group known as The Z List. The Z List have targeted Christopher Saynt for months, even luring Saynt's former tag team partner into their ranks. Christopher Saynt has now had enough and has decided to take the fight to The Z List and eliminated them one by one. His first target, the man who mentored him when he first began his career, Scott 'The Butcher' Renwick. The Butcher was always a hard-hitter but since joining The Z List, he has an unrepentant viciousness in him. Saynt looks to take out the heavyweight enforcer of The Z List on his path to destroying the group. However, the Scott Renwick that Christopher Saynt once knew is no more. The event will see both of Pride Wrestling's championship defended. The first, N7 Championship is a hotly contest title with numerous men laying claim to a shot at the championship. So how do you solve a problem like that? Put put the title on the line a four-way contest. Chris Renfrew has taken every step needed to keep the championship around his waist, the main step being delivering brutal beatings to his
opponents. But all of his defences so far have been straight up one on one affairs. Now Chris Renfrew must defend against former N7 Champion, Lewis Girvan, a mystery opponent and a man who has been in pursuit of Chris Renfrew for a number of months, DCT. Renfrew is a champion who will use the numbers game when needed. The tables are now turned though as the champion has a numerical disadvantage. Anyone could win this Saturday, who it will eventually be is very much like the fourth competitor, a mystery. The main event for November 21st will see 'The Beast Of Belfast' Big Damo defend the Pride Heavyweight Championship against Mikey Whiplash. This match will mark Big Damo's first defence of the heavyweight championship and the first appearance of Mikey Whiplash since he was robbed of the championship by Jacke Polo mere moments after winning it. Big Damo is the biggest man to ever hold the Pride Heavyweight Championship and will look to start his reign off with a showcase of his dominance. Mikey Whiplash will be looking to right the wrong that done to him earlier this year. One man is looking to start his reign as he means to go on. The other looking to start a reign he was so cruelly denied.

'Iron Man' Joe Coffey In Action

Finally on Sunday, Tidal Championship Wrestling will celebrate their second anniversary at the University Union in Leeds. They are not doing things small either as they have a nine match card set to take place! The main event will see Dara Diablo defend the TCW Championship for the first time since his win. He defends the title against a man who he knows very well, 'The Mexican Sensation' El Ligero. While Diablo may not pinned the champion to win the title, his accomplishment is still a big one. His defence will be even bigger as El Ligero is some of the toughest competition he could face in Tidal Championship Wrestling. From one championship to another, namely the TCW Open Championship. A few months ago, Sean Only had to forfeith the championship after substaining an injury that prevented him from competing. So now we need to have a match to find a new champion. Step up Violet O'Hara and Dan James. These two have met before in the past during the tournament to crown the first TCW Open Champion. We are guaranteed a new champion this Sunday so let's see who of the two that tried to capture the gold the first time can capitalise when opportunity presents itself once more. When people talk about the best in the UK, Martin Kirby is always in the mix. Another man often mentioned is Mark Haskins. If we discuss young rising talent, then former TCW Champion, Liam Lazarus is near the top of the pile. So in Leeds we're going to see two of the best in British Wrestling and a former champion and rising star compete in a triple threat match. This match should be all kinds of great. If you want to celebrate an anniversary then there really is no better way to do it than to have these three men compete in one ring.

Over the Border IV - A New Hope: Ones to Watch 2015

In my first foray into blogging on Across the Pond Wrestling for 2015 I’m going to take a look at wrestlers that I predict will have an outstanding year and for you, dear reader, to keep an eye out for in a town or TV screen near you. I have picked the following with valid reason.

Sammii Jayne

http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140906212526/prowrestling/images/4/47/Sammii_Jayne.jpg

Consistency is difficult when it comes to wrestling and Sammii Jayne consistently puts 100% into every match. Many, including myself, saw 2013 as Sammii’s breakthrough year but 2014 has seen her become a staple for Fierce Females among other companies and putting on great matches on a consistent basis. 2014 was just the start and 2015 will be the year that Sammii continues to put on great performances and getting the opportunities she deserves.

Check out Sammii Jayne on Facebook and Twitter:

Joe Coffey

The Iron Man has long been tipped as being the next big thing in professional wrestling, battering all that come near with forearms or twisting opponents like pretzels. He can work long endurance matches, earning the title of Iron Man, tag team matches with his brother Mark and can adapt to nearly every match type. A cameo appearance on RAW as a Rosebud and winning the SWA Zero1 Heavyweight Championship in 2014, Joe will be looking to build towards regaining that title in 2015 from Doug Williams plus he will be facing the ICW Heavyweight Champion at The Barrowlands in March for Barramania. Coffey will have plenty of opportunities to cement his name as a main event guy for any company he works for.

Check out Joe Coffey on Twitter:

The Gatecrashers
(Chris Saynt, Dave Conrad and Courtney)

Saynt and Conrad are a young tag team with a tonne of potential. They recently added the stunning Courtney to their ranks, who will have a great 2015 in her own right. All three are improving at a very fast rate and with Saynt and Conrad showing more confidence and chemistry with every performance whether it’s at Pride Wrestling, ICW or Reckless Intent, it won’t be long before they are a sought after tag team up there with the likes of Just Uz.

Check out everything Gatecrasher related on Facebook and Twitter:

Joe Hendry

http://www.reckless-intent.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/1624371_10151918946616262_1096791463_n.jpg

As soon as someone asks me who the future is in professional wrestling this guy is the first name to mind. 2014 was his first full year in professional wrestling. He appeared on RAW…twice, won countless titles in numerous promotions, won amateur wrestling matches, wrestled in Europe. Global Hero is not just a cocky moniker. 2014 was just the practice run and I predict big things from Joe Hendry in 2015 with titles, accolades and great matches to follow.

Check out Joe Hendry on Facebook and Twitter:

Lou King Sharp

https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/542026104513761280/erJm5cdV_400x400.jpeg

2014 was just the start for the young Lou King Sharp and 2015 will be his year to make a statement. The latter half of 2014 saw Sharp facing big names like Chris Renfrew and Grado. he will be looking to keep that momentum going. He’s your Mothers Favourite Wrestler, ripped, jacked and counting fat stacks. The guy talks the talk and thus far has been walking the walk. I can see Lou King Sharp being a star attraction in the future and a great 2015 will certainly help that.

Check out Lou King Sharp on Twitter:
Also check out my chat with Lou King Sharp:

Lionheart

http://www.lep.co.uk/webimage/1.6319961.1387221895!/image/1363339169.jpg_gen/derivatives/articleImgDeriv_628px/1363339169.jpg

2014 wasn’t the best year for Lionheart after suffering a neck injury that many would retire because of. He became GM of PCW and started his own podcast From the Heart which boasted a stellar guest list including Grado, Mark Dallas and Wolfgang. Due to make his in ring return in March for PCW and ICW, Lionheart will be looking to make up for lost time and will be proving that he still has a lot of mileage left in the tank. The showdown with Jackie Polo in The Barrowlands for ICW in March will be a mouth watering affair.

There you have it, just a couple of my picks for wrestlers that you should keep an eye out for in 2015, some veterans, some just into their first full active year but all have the talent and ability to be game changers. This of course has only scratched the surface and there are many more names that come off the top of my head of guys and girls that will be pushing themselves to the limits this year and beyond to make a name for themselves in a business that is a hot property in Scotland and the whole of the UK. Do you have a particular favourite that you think should be on people’s radars this year?
