Wrestle Ropes Ready for the Weekend: September 2016 Week 2 - Reckless Intent, NGW & ICW

This week's edition will see us not only travel to three different promotions but two countries as we head firstly to Livingston in Scotland on Saturday. Then it's to England's Hull before ending the weekend back north of the border in Glasgow, Scotland. Let's get Ready For The Weekend!

Saturday night sees the wrestling weekend start with Reckless Intent Wrestling holding their The Way It Is event at the Murieston Scout Hall in Livingston.

While Reckless Intent continues to grow as a promotion, this Saturday will mark the end of either Chris Renfrew or Sean Mercer's time with the company when they face in a Loser Leaves Reckless Intent match. These two men were originally scheduled to compete in standard match until Renfrew caught Mercer bullying members of the roster at a recent event. Following the incident, Renfrew challenged Mercer to the match. These men don't like each other and after Saturday, they'll not be sharing a locker room in Reckless Intent anymore.

Back in May, Massimo suffered an injury which lead to him being unable to defend the UK Championship. Now prior to this injury, DCT was due a championship match with Massimo. Obviously this wasn't able to take place. However, last month, Massimo returned from that injury and defeated the interim champion, Grado to reclaim the championship he never lost. Now he has to defend the UK Championship against the man who never got his chance, DCT. This is a match that has been waiting to happen for over 4 months. Massimo wants to keep the championship he has only just reclaimed and DCT wants to continue the roll he has been on while waiting for his opportunity.

Saturday shall see the debut of “The Real Deal” Mark Coffey in Reckless Intent and he's aiming for the top of his first night as he'll be challenging Michael Chase for the Heavyweight Championship. Chase is the only four-time Heavyweight Champion with his latest reign beginning with a win over “The Beast Of Belfast” Big Damo. Coffey needs little to no introduction as one half of Polo Promotions and a multiple tag team and singles champion. Chase has faced all comers during his championship reigns and Coffey is as big as they will come and will be looking to add another championship to his impressive history.

Match Card

Moving on to Saturday and New Generation Wrestling are at the Hull City Hall with Regeneration-X.

The show will feature the first ladder match for the GenX Championship with the current champion Matt Myers, Bubblegum, Wild Boar and the winner of Martin Kirby vs Robbie X. Not only will the winner of this match walk away with the GenX Championship but an opportunity at the Undisputed Championship, as well. Myers finally won the championship from Bubblegum in July at 8th Anniversary Show and will look to keep the title as well as getting a step closer to the Undisputed Championship but the odds in this match are not in his favour. He'll need all the determination he used to win the championship to keep it this Saturday.

“The Mexican Sensation” El Ligero has been in a long standing war with Dara Diablo in NGW which finally ended in a Last Man Standing match at 8th Anniversary Show. Ligero must have felt that the skies were clearing until Joseph Conners appeared. After attacking Ligero, “The Mexican Sensation” is after some retribution and a match  between the two has been signed for this Saturday. This is mostly likely the exact plan that Conners has in mind as he has a way of manipulating things to his own way. Ligero will be out for revenge but he must be aware of Conners' demanding offence, both physically and mentally.

The main event this Saturday will see “The Showstealer” Nathan Cruz defend the Undisputed Championship against the Destiny Rumble winner, Doug Williams. While Cruz is one of the biggest stars not only in NGW but British Wrestling as a whole, Williams is a legend of British Wrestling. Having won championships on almost every continent, Williams still has his eyes on more championship gold. Notably, the gold around the waist of Cruz. While “The Showstealer” played a part in eliminating The Control from NGW and has fought every challenger put his way, he shall know that Williams' experience and skill is matched by very few. A main event where a pioneer of British Wrestling faces one of it's brightest stars with championship gold on the line.

Four-Way Ladder Match for GenX Championship

Finally on Sunday we head back to Scotland for Insane Championship Wrestling's Fight Club TV taping in Glasgow.

The event shall be the last for Noam Dar who will soon be joining WWE's RAW show as part of their Cruiserweight division. While Dar will be moving on to new things, his last match will be something of a step back into history as he faces Andy Wild. These two men have competed against each other for years. They started their journey in wrestling at the same time. Now for the time being they give us one last hurrah. Have no doubt that these two men are going to give the best performance they can together. There are no issues and no rivalries here, this is purely competition and a celebration of Noam Dar's time in ICW.

While Noam Dar will be heading to WWE, Joe Coffey shall be facing a 4 time WWE World Champion on November 20th when he competes against Kurt Angle. Before he gets there though, he's got a match this Sunday against the current EVOLVE Champion, Timothy Thatcher. Coffey is known as a mighty wrestler and rightly so and his opponent, Thatcher, is known as being as pure a wrestler as you can get. Both men are genuine heavyweights and their styles should marry together very well. While Coffey will be focused on Angle on November 20th, he'll know that Thatcher is as much of a challenge and likewise Thatcher will know the reputation that Coffey holds.

Back at BarraMania II in April, Polo Promotions (Jackie Polo & Mark Coffey) won the Tag Team Championship, but then left the promotion. Not long after ICW began a tag team tournament to crown new champions with The Local Fire (Davey Boy & Joe Hendry) eventually winning at Shug's Hoose Party III in July. However, immediately following their win, Polo Promotions appeared with the original Tag Team Championship belts. This left a predicament as while Local Fire had won the tournament, Polo Promotions had never lost the championship. Therefore, this Sunday, Polo and Coffey of Polo Promotions will face Boy and Hendry of Local Fire in a ladder match with the winning team being named the Unified Tag Team Champions. Not only will the winning team be crowned the unified champions but they will also go on to Fear & Loathing IX on November 20th to face 6 time [WWE] World Tag Team Champions Team 3D's Bubba Ray & D-Von Dudley. It's all on the line this Sunday and only one team is walking away with it all.

Wrestle Ropes' Ready for the Weekend - May 2016 Week 4 - NGW, OTT & DPW

We're back with yet another edition of our weekly article and either you people keep reading them or Across The Pond Wrestling like having us around. Either way this weekend we're firstly heading to Northallerton for New Generation Wrestling's event on Friday. On Saturday we are once again going across the Irish Sea to Dublin for Over The Top Wrestling before finally rounding off hopping over to Wales where Dragon Pro Wrestling are in action in Newport. Let's get Ready For The Weekend!

Kicking off the wrestling weekend and New Generation Wrestling will be at The Forum in Northallerton. The show will be main evented by the current NGW Undisputed Champion; 'The Showstealer' Nathan Cruz and Martin Kirby. In a different set of circumstances, Kirby could have been the man with the gold in this contest as he originally set to challenge Rampage Brown at NGW's last event at The Forum for the title. However, Cruz managed to become the champion before that happened. Now Martin Kirby gets to face the man at the top of the mountain and while the championship will not be on the line, a win would certain put Kirby in line for a future title match. Cruz will be focused on his triple threat championship defence that takes place just 24 hours later, but he certainly won't be ignoring the threat that Kirby poses. One of the men who will be challenging Cruz on May 28th will be Rampage Brown. He shall also be in action this Friday when he faces Liam Slater in a match that shall be a first between the two. Brown is hell-bent on destruction right now and nobody is safe from his wrath. His opponent in Northallerton will be the ever popular, Slater, a man who has had his own problems of late, mainly in the shape of Joseph Conners. While it would be wise for Slater to have eyes in the back of his head, if he's not looking at Brown then he might not have a head on his shoulders when Brown is finished with his this Friday. If Brown is dangerous, then Dara Diablo is just as dark. The man who once stood alongside the biggest and most loved names in NGW simply does not exist anymore. In his place, is a dark and dangerous man who is in full control of the demons inside him. His opponent is Matt Myers, a man who has a drive like he never has before. These two men meet a number of months ago and it was Myers who walked away with the win. Since then Matt Myers' ambition has grown with the fire inside him for success. The question now is can Matt Myers' fire still burn bright when it is face to face with the blackness of Dara Diablo's soul?

Match Card

‘The Showstealer’ Nathan Cruz vs Martin Kirby

Rampage Brown vs Liam Slater

‘The Mexican Sensation’ El Ligero vs AJ Anderson

The Proven (Caz Crash & Sam Wilder) vs Team Sports (Ace Matthews & David Graves)

‘The Amazing’ Matt Myers vs Dara Diablo

Moving on to Saturday and Ireland's Over The Top Wrestling are back in Dublin at the Tivoli Theatre. The night will see The Gymnasties hard work come to fruition when they final challenge The Kings Of The North for the OTT Tag Team Championship. The Gymnasties have had to win three matches in a row to earn this title fight and they're bound to give it everything they have to finally win the championship they have desired for so long. The K.o.t.N. on the other hand have held the championship for a long time and will have no plans on releasing them this Saturday. The fact that it was Dunkan Disorderly of The K.o.t.N. who was the last hurdle The Gymnasties overcame on their road to the championship match will only add to Bonesaw & Damien Corvin's determination to win and keep the gold. Pete Dunne was originally scheduled to face Zack Sabre Jr this Saturday but an injury has meant that Dunne was without an opponent. Well he's got one now in the shape of 'Iron Man' Joe Coffey. These two men have never met one on one and the only interaction they have had in the squared circle was back in 2014. In those two years, these men have grown in ever sense of the word. Both are now bigger, stronger and more experienced. OTT is in one for one hell of a match in Dublin. The main event will see championship gold up for grabs as Luther Ward shall be putting the OTT No Limits Championship on the line against one of the most dangerous strikers in the world in 'Anti-Hero' Tommy End. Ward has been a mainstay of Over The Top Wrestling for a long time and is now in his second reign as champion. While known for his success as part of the Sumerian Death Squad, End has also held gold as singles competitor in multiple countries. This Saturday he will look to add another country to that list while Ward shall look to add another name to his list of men who have tried to take the championship from around his waist.

Match Card

OTT No Limits Championship
‘Anti-Hero’ Tommy End vs Luther Ward (c)

OTT Tag Team Championship
The Kings Of The North (Bonesaw & Damien Corvin) (c) vs The Gymnasties (B. Cool & Sammy D) (w/ Justin Shape)

‘The Bruiserweight’ Pete Dunne vs ‘Iron Man’ Joe Coffey

Logan Bryce vs Bull Dempsey

The weekend rounds off with Dragon Pro Wrestling who will be back at their home of the Rodney Parade in Newport, Wales. In the last 9 months, DPW have been having more regular events in Newport and 'Battlelines' will be the latest. The main event will see the head trainer of the DPW Academy, Mike Bird bring the best of the Academy in the shape of Danny Jones and Bishop to face the current All Wales Champion; Big Grizzly and two trainees who have turned their back on the Academy, Jonny Doe and Joe 'Messy' Mezinger. Bird has had enough of Grizzly cheating his way to win and now with the help of Doe and Mezinger, he's had enough. His partners, Jones and Bishop are two of the finest men to come from the DPW Academy in recent memory. Jones came very close to becoming champion until the aforementioned cheating stopped it. Bishop on the other hand is undefeated in DPW, defeating some of the best on the roster. Bird, Jones and Bishop look to send a message this Sunday that dirty tactics and disrespect will not be the way of Dragon Pro Wrestling. This Sunday will also see the continuation of the Celtic Crown Women's Championship tournament with two débuts. The first debut is Ciel Fontaine who carries a reputation of being a perfectionist with her work. That perfectionist trait has lead to her also being known as having quite a temper when things don't go her way. Her opponent and fellow debutante is Sierra Loxton, who is known for her very unique style, blending a mix of Lucha Libre and Joshi Puroesu to create vicious strikes that come with degree of showmanship. These two competitors will be a clash of styles, it'll come down to which style overcomes the other on May 28th and which debutante progresses to the next stage of the tournament. For a number of months, relations between former DPW Tag Team Champions; Panda Mask and Panda Cub have worsened. Things came to a head last month when they lost the championship to The Pure Breed. After that, things exploded between the two. This Sunday we're going to see one of the most popular tag teams in DPW tear themselves apart when they face each other one on one in Newport, Wales. This match may be less of who wins but rather who is the one to survive.

Match Card

Six-Man Tag Team
Danny Jones, Mike Bird & Bishop vs Big Grizzly, Jonny Doe & ‘Messy’ Joe Mezinger

Dragon Pro Tag Team Championship
The Pure Breed (Owen Wall & Matt Horgan) (c) (w/ Merlin Obediah Cambridge) vs ‘The Pride Of Wales’ Eddie Dennis & Lucky Bowden

Confirmed Entrants: ‘The Original Badman’ Beano, Oliver Sudden, Ian Williams III, Oliver Satchwell.

That wraps up this week's preview of the weekend's wrestling schedule. Of course, there are many more events taking place over the three days. Wrestle Ropes' Ready for the Weekend: February 2016 Week 3 - TW, SWE & NGW

Well this week we have a weekend-bursting bumper bonanza of shows coming up! We have shows from the very top of Scotland to the South of England with a lot in between. We shall be starting off our weekend journey in Dumfries on Friday. Then we are off to St Neots on the Saturday before ending our weekend in Liverpool. Let's get Ready For The Weekend!

On Friday night, Target Wrestling make their return to Dumfries at the Assembly Rooms. Each Target Wrestling show seems to get that little bit bigger and this is no different. The event shall see Medallion once again defending the Target Wrestling Heavyweight Championship (a new version of which shall be unveiled on the night) in his favourite match, a Medallion's Rules match. However, his opponent will be possibly his least favourite as Michael Dante shall be the challenger. While many will know Dante for being a part of the Sumerian Death Squad, he is. One of the best heavyweight wrestlers in Europe with a hard hitting, fast paced style that very few men of his size can replicate. This may be a case of Medallion's own match working against him with his championship reign under real threat. Where one member of the Sumerian Death Squad goes, another is bound to follow as Tommy End will also be in action on Friday night. His opponent will be Shady Nattrass. A man who has made a name for himself in Target Wrestling with victories over a number of international stars. End will no doubt be his toughest opponent yet though. A man who is sought by the likes of PWG is no easy thing to combat and End's plethora of kicks and strikes may give Shady Nattrass a beating the likes of which he has never experienced. The Target Wrestling Tag Team Championship will also be on the line at the Assembly Rooms as Havok and Karnage will defend against Martin Kirby and a mystery opponent. While the name of Kirby's partner may be a mystery, his accolades as a tag team wrestler are well known. A multi-time, multi-promotion tag team champion who has defeated some of the best tag teams in the world. Havok & Karnage may have been at the top of the tag team division for a number of months but the experience of Martin Kirby and the unknown element of his partner may be the catalyst to end the reign of Havok & Karnage.

Medallion (c) vs Michael Dante

*Target Wrestling Tag Team Championship*
Havok & Karnage (c) vs Martin Kirby & ???

‘Anti-Hero’ Tommy End vs Shady Nattrass

The Coyote Kid vs Alexander Henry

Moving on to Saturday and Southside Wrestling host 'Battle Of The Egos 6' at The Priory Centre in St Neots. As always from Southside Wrestling, it is a star studded affair with a wealth of British stars alongside international names. One match which showcase this is Will Ospreay vs Andrew Everett. Both of these men are gaining more worldwide recognition as time goes on and it seems only right that they should meet in competition. Regardless of who wins, we are guaranteed a high-flying, non-stop show this Saturday. Another match with international flavour is the contest between BT Gunn and the current EVOLVE Champion, Timothy Thatcher. Gunn is quite simply one of the best wrestlers in Europe without question. His opponent is known as being one of the best wrestlers in the world with a championship to prove it. Gunn may have only had limited success in Southside so far but a big win could be just around the corner. If indeed that win would be over Thatcher then Gunn would have a legitimate claim to a championship match in Southside Wrestling. The main event for this Saturday will see 'The Righteous' Joseph Conners defend the Southside Heavyweight Championship against former champion, 'The Heavyweight House Of Pain' Stixx. Conners has been a dominant champion thanks in part to his aggression and also to The Righteous Army. Stixx was also known for having a impressive championship reign the last time he held the title. Stixx already holds a win over Conners in a tag team match. Now they will meet one on one except this time the match will be a Last Man Standing contest. Whoever leaves Southside Wrestling as champion will only do it by outlasting the other man.

Finally ending the weekend on Sunday (as is tradition with a week) and New Generation Wrestling host 'Destiny 2016' at the Liverpool Olympia. The event will be headlined by the annual 20-man over the top rope rumble match which is particularly star-studded this year with the likes of Mark Haskins, El Ligero and Doug Williams all confirmed entrants. The winner will be leaving with a guaranteed match for the NGW Undisputed Championship. Speaking of the NGW Undisputed Championship, the current champion, 'The Showstealer' Nathan Cruz will join forces with his long-time adversary, Zack Gibson to take on The Control's Rampage Brown & Mark Haskins. While Cruz & Gibson may not like each other, they like The Control even less. The Control have attempted to exploit the bad feeling between Gibson & Cruz which at times has seemed to work. Can the champion and a potential challenger find the common ground long enough to deal a blow to The Control? We'll find out Sunday. As we previously mentioned, El Ligero and Doug Williams shall be in the Destiny Rumble but they will also be in singles action against each other. Ligero has achieved a huge amount in NGW as well as the UK as a whole. Williams on the other hand is simply a legend of British Wrestling with the accomplishments to prove it. This match will be a great encounter of two of the best in the UK.

Wrestle Ropes' Ready for the Weekend: January 2015 Week 5 - TCW, NGW & ICW

Well last weekend did not disappoint with major championships changing hands and new reigns beginning. Moving on to this weekend and we see Tidal Championship Wrestling and New Generation Wrestling kicking off their 2016 schedules while Insane Championship Wrestling celebrate their 100th show. Let's get Ready For The Weekend!

Kicking off the weekend on Friday night and Tidal Championship Wrestling are back at The Dolphin Centre in Darlington with 'New Year's Revolution'. The show will be the first of 2016  for TCW and will see El Ligero defend the TCW Championship for the first time since winning it back in December. His challenger will be Darlington's own, Perfect Purdie. Even though Purdie shall be be considered an underdog to the champion, he possesses a great set of skills, of which Ligero has requested the chance to test himself against. One match on the card with an element of the unknown is Kirsty Love vs Miss Roxxy. Both these wrestlers will be making their first appearance for TCW and shall be wanting to leave a good impression. After a war of words, this match has become a little more personal so it should be expected that the contest will have a bit more spice than your usual competitive match. If you like your wrestlers with an attitude then Dan James and HT Drake are the wrestlers for you. Whilst James may be the TCW Open Champion, he is not what you would call a happy person. The challenger for the championship, Drake is known for having a bad attitude and a general dislike for pretty much everything. So on Friday, the champion may be even more miserable if he loses, or the challenger might see things in a better frame of mind if he wins. But we doubt it.

Moving on to Saturday and New Generation Wrestling return to the Pudsey Civic Hall with Full Force and full force the show shall be with a lot of feuds and rivalries being fought over. Two men with a great deal of bad blood between them are Rampage Brown and Zack Gibson. These two men have being going back and forth for a few months now with them both on a quest for the NGW Undisputed Championship. In late 2015, Gibson took a DQ win over Brown which didn't help settle their issues so they will once against meet in the squared circle but this time a shot at the NGW Undisputed Championship will be on the line. Speaking of the NGW Undisputed Championship, Nathan Cruz shall be defending the gold on January 30th in Pudsey. His challenger will be Lionheart, who claims that if their match didn't end in a draw thanks to a mass brawl breaking out, he would have beaten the champion. With that being the case, NGW management have decided to see if Lionheart can back up what he claims. On Saturday night, Cruz puts the championship on the line against a man who says he's got him beat. One other match scheduled for this Saturday will see GenX competitors, Wild Boar and Flash Morgan Webster competing one on one. Each man has a very different type of in-ring style with Boar being a very hard-hitting competitor and Webster known for his fast-paced, high-flying style. While it will be a clash of styles, it'll be also certainly be a full on contest with both men looking to pick up a win and a possible future shot at the GenX Championship.

Finally ending the wrestling weekend on Sunday night and Insane Championship Wrestling celebrate their 100th show at The Garage in Glasgow with a Friday Night Fight Club TV taping. Recent tapings of ICW's Friday Night Fight Club have seen some great matches taking place and this Sunday looks to be no different with three championships being defended, two of which will be the first defence of the current champion. Chris Renfrew may have only won the ICW World Heavyweight Championship last weekend but he will be in action on January 31st when his championship will be on the line against former champion, Mikey Whiplash. These two men had issues for a number of months in 2015 with it culminating (or so we thought) at Fear & Loathing VIII in a steel cage match where the NAK faced Legion. However this rivalry looks to be reignited with championship gold being added into the mix. Renfrew has finally reached to top of the mountain in ICW, now he has to fight the monsters that are hunting him and the ICW World Heavyweight Championship he holds. Another champion will be defending their championship for the first time will be Carmel. It seems only fitting that ICW original, Carmel would defend the ICW Women's Championship on such a landmark show. Her challenger, Sammii Jayne is a wrestler that is making a name for herself not just in ICW but in British Wrestling in general. Now under the tutelage of Nikki Storm, Sammii is looking for gold. Carmel has been a part of some of ICW's most historic moments, she will be looking to start her championship reign with a win otherwise she might be part of a historic moment she did not expect. At a previous edition of Friday Night Fight Club, BT Gunn and Kenny Williams put on a show-stealing performances that had everyone talking. So ICW have decided to let both men go at it one more time. It was the former ICW Zero-G Champion, Williams who took the win in their last outing. Gunn will be looking to even the score this Sunday with Williams setting out to prove he's got the number of the two-time ICW Heavyweight Champion.
